REGAL PRESENCE

REGAL PRESENCE

Hyderabad-based designer JAYANTI REDDY shares her inspiration, from royal Mughal artwork to zari work, for the modern couple’s wedding ensembles.

Hyderabad-based designer Jayanti Reddy has made a name for herself with the exquisite workmanship her atelier creates. The hand-embroidered zardosi and threadwork are case in point: elaborate lehengas, sari with belts, and bandhgalas for the groom have become an indelible part of any wedding celebration. It is natural, then, that the most fashionable in the country have adorned her clothes, from Sonam Kapoor Ahuja to Shilpa Shetty, Nita Ambani, Upasana Kamineni, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Madhuri Dixit Nene, to name a few. “I have always been drawn to the royal Mughal artwork and its glorious workmanship of intricate jaal and floral designs,” Reddy shares with Bridal Asia. “The iconic kairi motif has been a part of my design aesthetic for a long time, and I find it intriguing to reimagine it each time fresh inspiration strikes!” she tells us enthusiastically. Her eponymous label’s latest collection, titled Palazzo, is named after the Italian word ‘palace’, and the regal intention behind the styles is evident. The pieces are richly detailed and meticulously hand-crafted with newer embroideries, in soft hues highlighted by classic purples and black. “Introducing modern blazers and jumpsuits, along with intricately-embroidered saris, are the highlights of this collection,” Reddy explains.

One can recognise Reddy’s creations from a mile away, given that her signature hue, purple, stands out with its royal presence. In addition, tones of red, pink, and mustard add to the celebratory spirit of the brand. With her design language strongly rooted in Indian heritage and craftsmanship, Reddy works with hand-embroidery techniques using zardozi, cut dana, and threadwork on hand-woven fabrics like pure dupion silk, organza, and organic hand-spun silk. “Brides, these days, are looking for the contemporary blended with a traditional touch for their wedding. Understanding this balance along with the bride’s personal style is key to being a Jayanti Reddy Bride,” the designer states.
