Entrepreneur and designer, AASHNA KHOSLA, creates dainty and delicious tableware that serve as the perfect feast for the eyes
Aashna Khosla was just an eager designer with a degree in Fashion Merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York when she returned to India with the hope of offering a unique perspective to the otherwise mundane world of dining. “While interning as a product designer in the family business, I began designing and developing my own collections. Every time I would pick up a pencil, I would always find myself starting with sketching a spoon. That’s when I knew I had a connection with cutlery, and that’s how XAKA came into being in September 2018,” she says.
At 29, her craze for cutlery is what drove the designer towards exploring undiscovered territories of tableware. Her strong belief in the dainty and dignified aesthetic of her brand, however, is what pushes Aashna to consistently innovate. “I’ve wanted to change the way luxury dining and entertaining is perceived, simply because I absolutely love doing both! It intrigues me why there is so much focus on fancy food, but hardly any on what one uses to eat it. XAKA aims to change this perception. I work towards freeing cutlery from its currently plain and clichéd form,” she adds.
With the evolution of design through each collection, Aashna strives to enter and make a space for herself in what is arguably, the epicenter of a home—the dining table (with cutlery prices at `5000 – `18000). For her, designing luxury products is not solely about making magnificent creations, but also paying equal importance to the functionality of its design and the needs of the people, who invest in a luxury experience, like this one.

She says, “For me, luxury lies in the details,” and her products are a testament to that. Since her first collection, ‘Adva’, it has been clear that she has an impeccable eye for detail with which she picks up inspiration from organic elements, and applies the same to her design philosophy. “Adva is one of the first collections I designed, so it’s definitely special to me. It’s inspired by tiny waves or little roars of the ocean as we like to call them. The pieces are elegantly designed, yet give a bold and enigmatic look,” she adds.

‘Acacia’, handcrafted tableware inspired by resurrecting branches, and ‘Aspara’, in which the needlelike leaves of the asparagus plant make for interesting musings, are some of Aashna’s tasteful designs. Created from the purest of materials and completed with an impeccable finish, every collection is unique in its own way and at the same time, bears similarities to one another in their deep-rooted inspiration in natural elements.
Along her journey towards redefining tableware in India, the designer found her forte; a balance between raw art and functional design, which is where her incredibly refined product range is placed. However, the journey has only just begun. Aashna is working on various collections and collaborations, all of which are under wraps. What she seems to be most excited about however, is the upcoming launch of her premium brand, a new platform for the young designer to do what she loves— experimenting with designs, and fresh consumer needs.
