PLAY OF COLOUR
The singular creations by Mumbai-based RARE HERITAGE are an ode to the modern bride and her personality.
What does the modern Indian bride want? Mumbai-based jewellery brand Rare Heritage decided to answer that question with the launch of their brand in 2014, with myriad options of necklace sets, earrings, cuffs, rings, and more. The biggest draw? A symphony of gemstones highlighted with sparkling diamonds and elaborate setting. In conversation with Bridal Asia, the Directors of Rare Heritage—Nakshatra Mehta, Manushi Singh, and Varun Mehta share just what makes their brand so special. “Rare Heritage, a Mehta Emporium initiative, was born to create the perfect altar for the modern Indian bride. Inspired by the grandeur of the past, we provide a luxurious trousseau-creation experience for brides-to-be and their families,” the Directors explain.

Their unique designs, that blend minimalism with maximum impact, speak to a modern audience with the play of colour, rhythm, and style. “While the creations are certainly trendsetting in their own right, each one becomes an heirloom piece that remains a part of the legacy of every family,” they add. To ensure that each creation is special, Rare Heritage curates and creates a limited selection of designs that best define the spirit of every annual collection. The final range is, as a result, a singular creation of unsurpassed beauty.

“Our designs serve as an excellent example of the harmonious combination between tradition and modernity in an ever evolving aesthetic. In addition to highlighting the rich heritage of traditional craftsmanship and splendour, these exquisite creations incorporate innovative designs, materials, and unique techniques,” they share. The bridal sets that the brand creates are versatile enough to work for both the main function, as well as for the many parties and events the bride will need to attend once the wedding celebrations are over. And to help in making the right investment, the trio lets in on the jewellery trend du jour: coloured gemstones. “We have seen a marked shift from traditional diamonds to vivid gemstones. This, we believe, is because brides are looking to express their individuality and incorporate a pop of colour into their bridal set. The most popular stones include vibrant sapphires, emeralds, and rubies,” they reveal. Even as an investment, market watchers are predicting that the value of diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds is only going to increase, as the demand for them rises.

For their own pieces, the brand looks to the best sources in India and the international market. “We include gemstones like rubies, sapphires, emeralds, tanzanite, south sea pearls, semi precious-onyx, hydro, fresh water pearls in our creations. We have an extensive supply chain domestically and internationally,” they state. Since Rare Heritage’s jewellery comes in a range of styles, there is something for every wearer and occasion, a fact they pride themselves on. “Our jewellery is an excellent way for women to liven up their look and reflect their personality,” they add. Customising a creation is another detail they carefully look into, to make a set even more precious for the bride on her big day. And catering to a pan-India client ensures that they incorporate personal or regional additions effortlessly.
